Psoriasis is classified as immune mediated disease that causes the immune system to dysfunction and as a result increase in inflammation in the body.

Some visible signs of inflammation includes raised plaques and scales on the skin. This is as a result of overactive of the immune system that speed up the skin cell growth turnover. Compared to normal skin cell, within one month, skin can completely grow and shed off whereas with psoriasis skin cells turnover takes between 3-4 days.

Instead of shedding, the dead skin cells accumulate on the surface of the skin. As a result psoriatic plaque and scales appears on top of the skin, mainly in the elbows, knees and scalp. Some people report psoriasis plaque itch, burn and sting.
